My father changes how he makes these every time and it is fun to mix it up when you come up with a new idea. I made these for my husband's grandmother's 90th birthday party and they were wiped out. His family said I should enter a
rib contest. The method is really easy but you can't short the cooking time. You have to let it go low and slow.
Ingredients:
Baby back ribs (half rack per adult)
Spice rub
1 tbsp each paprika and brown sugar
1 tsp each garlic powder, onion powder and salt
Barbecue sauce (recommended Bone Suckin' Sauce or make your own)
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup chili sauce
1 tsp each hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp cider vinegar
1/2 tsp each garlic powder and onion powder
2 tbsp brown sugar
Salt to taste
Preheat
oven to 350. Combine spices for spice rub. Season each side of the
ribs with the rub. Place in a baking dish and put ribs in the oven.
Make (or open barbecue sauce). Your ribs will need to cook for 2
hours. 40 minutes in, baste the top of the ribs with your barbecue
sauce. Cook for 40 more minutes and baste again. Allow to cook for the final 40 minutes and then remove from the oven. Allow to cool somewhat before slicing the ribs. Serve with additional barbecue sauce if desired.
I like to serve this
with either homemade baked mac and cheese or homemade deli style potato
salad. For a vegetable, either salad or green bean and of course a nice
cold beer. As with a good pasta sauce, a good jarred barbecue sauce
should have almost all ingredients that you would put in your own pot
(tomato paste and cider vinegar should be near the top of the ingredient
list).
